Government Info

Policy E of the Planning policy for traveller sites states

Inappropriate development is harmful to the Green Belt and should not be
approved, except in very special circumstances. Traveller sites (temporary or
permanent) in the Green Belt are inappropriate development

Planning Policy Guidance 2: Green belts

From the Department for Communities and Local Government: Annex E

Gypsy Sites (from of DOE Circular )
“As a rule it will not be appropriate to make provision for gypsy sites in areas of open land where development is severely restricted, for example, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and other protected areas. Gypsy sites are not regarded as being among those uses of land which are normally appropriate in Green Belts. Green Belt land should not therefore be allocated for gypsy sites in development plans.”

Since May 2010 the Government has made several policy announcements relating to Gypsies. The
Localism Bil is one part of it.

The Localism Bill will abolish Regional Spatial Strategies (RSS). RSS were the means by which local authorities made adequate provision for Gypsy sites their revocation occurred on 6 July 2010.

The future of our communities are in our hands and we urge everyone to ensure that we do not let others outside of our community decide our future and possibly change the face and character of our neighbourhood for the worse and forever.

IMPORTANT Response Form

Now that the consultation is underway – we should all complete the ‘official’ consultation response forms. It is difficult to find the form on the BaNES website so we have posted it in here.

The  “Gyspies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople Site allocation Development Plan Document (DPD) Preferred consultation” document and “response form” are important – we suggest you download both – using the links below.

The first link is their outlining document – very useful – “Gyspies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople Site allocation Development Plan Document (DPD)”, it is a pfd document of 20 pages that summarises the 7 selected sites.

The lower 2 links are to the “Response Form” – (either as a .pdf or a .doc format). PLEASE download the response form, fill it in and send off (or leave at one of our pick up points). The form was updated after BaNES accepted that the original was “confusing”, but they will accept the old form if you have already sent one in.

IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU INCLUDE YOUR ADDRESS on completed forms.

If you want further information on the process then the link to the BaNES site is below.

Your responses can be made by completing the response form and returning it by email to planning_policy@bathnes.gov.uk or by post to Gypsy and Traveller DPD, Planning Services, PO Box 5006, Bath, BA1 1JG.

The deadline for response forms to be submitted is 5:00 pm on 18th July 2012.
